Work out all the time and still can’t lose weight?

Have you had these thoughts before? Ever been frustrated that you put in all this time at the gym and you still aren’t getting the results you intended?

I have to say that this was a major thought process in my head from about age 18-24. I really believed that if I could work out harder and more consistently then I would finally reach the weight that I desired. This was definitely not the case. I sometimes wonder why we get so fixated that exercise is the solution to this problem? If you think about it, if you work out 1 hour a day, 7 days a week you are still only working on your weight loss goal 7/168 hours per week. What about the remaining 161 hours?

Solely focusing on exercise is the easy way to try and reach your weight loss and fitness goals. It is easy because it is the component to weight loss that is the least amount of time for us to focus on. What needs to be incorporated is the way we eat and our mindset, yet we often avoid these things because they are behaviors we need to be conscious of all through out each day. They are more challenging to make consistent changes in. More than 700 weight loss studies have shown that weight loss is 75% diet and 25% exercise. Research also shows that even if you focus on nutrition and exercise, chronic stress is a major contributor to the inability to lose weight and can even add on pounds.

So what is the key to weight loss success?

The key to success is to focus on all three: exercise, nutrition and mindset/behavior change at the same time.
